Led by the Milwaukee County Parks Department, the Menomonee River Parkway project has been divided into two sections: Congress Street to Burleigh and Church Street to Burleigh. Obviously the latter impacts the Village and surrounding neighborhoods. This project calls for a new roadway “improved storm water management, segments of new multi-use trail, updated parkway lighting and the introduction of green infrastructure elements such as bioswales and rain gardens,” according to a recent email from The County Executive’s office.
Last year, $3.2 million in capital budget was set aside to begin reconstructing while next year’s budget, which is pending approval, calls for an additional $3.8 million to complete the parkway from Church Street to Burleigh.
Partners in the project include the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR), the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD), Friends of Hoyt Pool, City of Wauwatosa, City of Milwaukee, Mount Mary University, and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
The entire project is anticipated to be wrapping up in the fall of 2015.
